IMS Therapy
IMS (Intramuscular Stimulation) at Thrive Now
At Thrive Now, our physiotherapists provide IMS (Intramuscular Stimulation) to treat muscular pain and dysfunction. During treatment, your physiotherapist will insert thin, sterile needles into specific points within your muscles, targeting trigger points or tight bands of muscle fibers. This process aims to stimulate the muscle, leading to relaxation and relief of tension.
While it may seem like acupuncture, which is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (and also provided at Thrive Now), IMS primarily addresses physical muscular issues.
IMS/dry needling aims to help release muscle knots, improve blood flow, and alleviate pain, contributing to overall muscle function and mobility.
Does IMS Hurt?
IMS may cause temporary discomfort as thin needles are inserted into trigger points within muscles. However, the intensity of discomfort varies, and some of our patients experience very little during treatment.
Our goal is to ensure you are as comfortable as possible, and we encourage you to tell your practitioner if you need any of your treatment adjusted!
Benefits of IMS at Thrive Now
Pain Relief
By targeting trigger points or tight knots in muscles, IMS can help reduce pain and discomfort.Improved Range of Motion:
IMS can enhance flexibility and range of motion by releasing tension in muscles and promoting better muscle function. This can be helpful for conditions like myofascial pain syndrome or muscular tightness.Muscle Relaxation
The insertion of thin needles into specific muscle points triggers a local twitch response. This helps to alleviate muscle spasms and reduce overall muscle tension.Improved Circulation
IMS encourages blood flow to targeted areas, promoting improved circulation. This can then contribute to better nutrient and oxygen delivery to the muscles, aiding in their recovery.Customized Treatment Plan
To increase effectiveness of treatment, your physiotherapist will ensure your treatment is designed based on your needs, condition, and goals.Conditions IMS Can Address
